Since todays patch it's happened to me twice, one of which resulted in a ship and capsule loss (Due to no E-Warp apparently 3 mins after)
The screen suddenly starts making strange black areas flashing then completely crashes, however the applications appear to still all be working. The only result to quit EVE is to force shutdown the computer.
EVE is completely unplayable like this and this needs to be fixed asap.

I see the PC player base is getting more issues this patch too, maybe this is related as I see someone having a "flashing" issue. |

Apparently turning all graphics on the right to "Low" or "None" has fixed the issue for me (for now). Everything checked in the middle as well. Problem Is I don't like playing on such low graphics but it's fine for me until this gets solved.
I tested on SiSi yesterday that having all graphics as low or none and checkmarks (ticks) all off in the middle stops the crashing. So if crashing still happens with the checks in the middle turn the checks off. if it still happens then reply on this. |

I tested both and still gotten freezes as well so I removed the solutions on my main thread, i thought it was a possible fix but it was not. Unplayable day of EVE added with a loss of a ship
Also confirming I have no bug report reply yet. |

If there is no improvement we will of course keep investigating.
Is this new update on SiSi or somewhere so we can test it before it going onto Tranquility? |

That doesn't work as well. It's a bug within the game causing it. Anyhow lets just hope it gets fixed tomorrows patch. |

This issue I first posted on forums eventually diverted to the black login issue which wasn't what I posted... myself haven't obtained the black login problem but the flicker crash. I'm going to try todays patch at some point to see if my flicker crash happens anymore.
But has the flicker crash been fixed for anyone? The one I said on my original post. |

What operating system are we all running and receiving the flicker freeze issue with? I want to know if it's all Mac OS's or just Mavericks.
Also is CCP testing this with what OS? 10.9.1? 10.7.5?

Trebor Daehdoow wrote:The ingame crashing problem is made worse by the fact that it is not, in fact, a crash.
Rather, the UI freezes, while the rest of the client chunks away happily. This is why you don't disappear from space.
This problem has been around for a long time but it is getting steadily worse. Before todays patch, I couldn't go more than 15 minutes without a freeze.
At one point, I had one copy of the client with the frozen UI, and another one happily bumping the the frozen toon's ship. As soon as I force-quit the first copy of the app, he ewarped off.
Yep, thats how my ship loss possibly happened as well as capsule.
Worse is I need to force shutdown my computer because it freezes up my entire computer screen. So I can't get log data for it or anything. |

It has worked for me every time by automatically closing out the current application (which is Eve) and if it doesn't, then it should allow you to force quit the application manually.
As for the actual freezing problem, someone mentioned in another thread to disable Eve voice chat and it apparently worked as my game has not crashed since. Worth a shot.
Also forgot to mention that holding Command + Alt + Shift + Escape for about 3 seconds will definitely terminate the current application.
I've tried all possible solutions to stop this, my EVE Voice is already disabled a while ago. It isn't the solution, it's a bug within EVE causing it which can only be solved by patching.
I forgotten about the command + alt + shift + escape, but if it does anything I'm unsure. If I'm willing to force my computer into a crash again I'll give it a go and try get logs on it. |

SP isn't the issue here, it's our game being unaccessable. And getting game time back would also be allowed for this. |

If i leave Eve open and go to a firefox screen that flickers. I can enter the game if I can click on the correct bit of a totally black screen, but I'm having to run windowed with my bottom modules hidden if I do get in and it's hard work. I cannot fathom the mac client logging. There's nothing I can see in the launcher log. Looking at my mac's logs I am getting a lot of Nvidia errors, many times a second: 08/02/2014 10:51:50.000 kernel[0]: NVDA(OpenGL): Channel exception! exception type = 0xd = GR: SW Notify Error This is an example of the graphics problems I have had http://imgur.com/8Yp0YYaI'm running on a 2009 pre-recession 13 inch macbook pro with the NVIDIA GeForce 9400M. It worked (except station environment) until Tuesday :( This indicates that the Nvidia driver is in a bad state, whether that is a genuine driver bug or our code is somehow corrupting something in the driver. Generally application code should not be able to this sort of exception - the driver should handle things gracefully even if the app is doing something wrong, and simply return appropriate error codes. The only changes in low level graphics code in recent patches were to address similar issues in drivers we'd seen under Windows. Often those kinds of fixes simply involve doing things differently - sometimes the old code is perfectly valid (and runs fine on other hardware, with a different driver). We have a couple of ideas of things we could change that might affect this issue, but the risk is that some of the issues we were trying to fix rear their ugly heads again so we need to test those changes carefully. I'd also really prefer to see a repro case inhouse that we can then use to verify that those changes indeed fix the issue. So far we've been unsuccessful with that - none of the Macs we have exhibit any of those symptoms. Admittedly we do not have one with the 9400m card, but the issue has been reported on the 320m. We do have such a Mac, and the character selection screen shows up fine there (as well as all the other Macs). There must be more factors involved that we haven't worked out yet - this is too consistent to be random, but it's not just the graphics card. We'll keep digging until we find something. When we do, I'm pretty sure the issue will be fixed on the 9400m as well as the newer cards.
You tested the other macs for the freezing client locking up computer screen as well? Not just the black screen of death?
I don't have any Blackscreen of death, my client freezes up all the time if I'm in space and many ships are there.
Try testing at the Amarr undock and move the camera around, within a minute the client will freeze up the entire computer screen by flickering. |

Have to admit that I, too, am playing with the sub-spec GeForce 9400M card on a 2009 MacBook. So if this is hardware related, no worries: I need to upgrade at some point anyway. If itGÇÖs a software problem, though, looking forward to the fix. Don't worry about being just under the minimum requirements, the 320m is having major issues with the exact same bug which is on the minimum requirements of the Mac client. Some 330m's seem to have problems as well. |

Dux Bellorium wrote:Grateful that I don't seem to have it as bad as others. I seem to be able to login OK. I can't play as normal though. I'm not taking any fleets out and risking other players ships, because I can't pull up the map, I can't really go into low or null sec safely.
Today I had my first "right click crash" where right clicking in space was all that was needed to generate another hard crash. I crash 3 or 4 times a day now. Takes out the whole computer. In just about every case for me it happens when a window is being called/opened. Be that a Map window, a web browser window.
I'm also grateful CCP has someone like CCP Snorlax keeping us up to date. We know your working on this. People in this thread have also all been really helpful and for the most part, kept it very positive. As a developer myself I know it makes CCP Snorlax's job much easier when he can focus on the problem and not have to deal with difficult people.
As we approach a full week of major issues that pretty much affects the entire Mac platform, (sure, it's not the largest, but still no less important than other segments) of not of not being able to play as normal, it might be worth considering reverting to the old code that was in place before the problems started? That is ultimately the common thread. Everyone's problems started after the 1.1x patch.
I know that companies set deadlines and goals that need to be met. Sometimes things get pushed out the door before they are ready to meet a deadlines. This may not have been the case here, I am not in a position to know. I just know that sometimes it happens.
While initial efforts to fix the problem are greatly appreciated, at some point there will come a time where it is better to save face and revert to the old code . Resolving the problem in the short term while development continues to fix the code and bring back the latest updates.
I don't know when the point in time is. A week, a week and a half, two weeks? The potential is there for this to become an even bigger customer service issue for CCP. I don't want to see that happen and hope that CCP has a date set, were if you can't resolve the issue, you revert the code (short term fix) and keep that segment of your customer base positive. I would not think negatively of CCP if they did this. On the contrary I think it is the right thing to do.
Having a lot of angry customers who are paying for something and not getting what they are paying for is really bad for any company for so many reasons. CCP has been very responsive and without question has shown to take this issue very seriously. I have nothing but good things to say about their whole approach to the problem. I know they are on our side and while it's only a game, it's still a product / service that we subscribe to and pay for. I'm not asking for my money back. I'm very patient. I just don't want to get to the point were patience runs out, not just for me but for this entire market segment.
So please, set a date if you have not already. A deadline. Where either a solution has been found and deployed or revert the code. Don't just rule it out and say it's not possible. ItGÇÖs not just old Macs that are affected. And while you're at it, hop on Craig's list and go buy a couple old used Macs. In the grand scheme of things, the cost of a couple of old used Macs is far less aggravating an entire segment of your user base.
In the mean time, I'll keep testing the patches and giving you what ever feedback I can and hopefully what I have written here has remained positive like some many other posts before mine.
Thank you for all you are doing to get us fully back up and running, crash free.
The problem is if the old code was brought back before these problems started happening, the AMD cards will then have an issue. What broke EVE for the Mac users and many other users was fixing the AMD issue.
I encountered this exact problem we are having on TQ when I went onto the Singularity server the night before the 4th Feb patch. So I did find the bug, it was just too late and CCP rolled out the patch.
Though the lots and lots of issues people came across on the 4th of feb patch must have been detectable on the Singularity server, it was detectable for me at least for sure. |

I can't quit the game, turn on or off modules, warp, etc. I have to force quit EVE or I have to shut my computer down.
I have already reinstalled the game, it may be worse now than ever. I can't even go 5 minutes of gameplay without this happening. An update: After the reinstall did not work, I tried to move my EVE Online folder, within the Library > Application Support folder, to the trash and run the game. That creates a new EVE folder. Now, I log in and the game completely crashes immediately. Can't command + alt + escape anymore, I now have to completely turn my computer off every time I start EVE. So, it made the issue worse. This "fix" is what was recommended to me via support ticket. I tried to move the folder from trash back into the Application Support folder to overwrite the new folder created when I tried this fix, but that did not work as I received the error message: The operation canGÇÖt be completed because the item GÇ£wineserver-Scotts-MacBook-Air.local-usernameGÇ¥ is in use. This was also recommended by the support ticket. Now, I will be unable to update my skills. Before, I could not play the game, but I at least could update my skills as long as I did it in under 30 - 60 seconds. This has been happening on all 3 of my accounts since around February 2nd. 9 x 3 = 27 days. 27 days of USD paid game time wasted.
Not wasted, put through a petition and hopefully they will give us something to make up for all of this, maybe PLEX(s), not just game time or game time. |

So the games progresses further on the Mini than on the Pro but in the end they both need hard resets.

Thing is the person above said he is getting lock ups with an Intel HD 3000 graphics card as well, so for some reason it doesn't seem it's an Nvidia problem. Maybe it has something to do with OpenGL. |

Have reported it to CCP maybe will help fix it properly.
So bypass the launcher by right clicking your normal eve start up ion, choose show package contents-->contents-->-->resources should be a familiar looking eve icon. Double click and you have the 'old' launch screen where you put your log in details at the bottom.
Then you will get the lovely black screen of death but now you can 'blind click' on where your character would be the familiar sounds go off in the background.
Wait....
Still a black screen BUT now alt-tab back to your desktop (which before I could not do using normal launcher)
THEN
alt-tab back to Eve and you should get your station environment, if its like mine it is horribly messed up - you can see your ship but the station is a horrible gold artefact...BUT undock, everything looks OK,,,,re-dock and everything is back to the way it used to be,
Not perfect but at least you can get in and update training plans, market orders, etc, etc.
The game is still there & messing around gets you in which proves the problems must be fixable - something to do with method calls at start up that are throwing the Nvdia cards into a loop.
Finally happy after being without Eve for a week & a half. !!
Yeah all these solutions to just 'get us into eve' and we can't even fly in space properly still
Hopefully there will be some sort of update soon on fixing everything of this issue. |

Today's patch didn't fix anything for me, still constant flicker crashing each time.
CCP hasn't replied for 24 hours on this thread now, are we being ignored?

I really hope this issue gets fixed tomorrow, I've not flown or PVP'd or anything in EVE for over a week.
If it is an OpenGL issue, maybe changing the interval settings... I'll give it a try.
EDIT: Interval settings and multithreading changes nothing. |

These 3 threads above also report the exact same issue, NOT using EVE.
Something must be triggering this caused by the Nvidia cards. And it isn't just first encountered in EVE Online.
I've managed to cause my freeze flickers by putting my mouse over multiple ships at one area quite frequently. |

Please take note of the previous couple of posts. At least there seems to be some common sense prevailing there in terms of suggesting a methodology for getting to the bottom of this. Furthermore, a statement from CCP to say that you WILL reimburse players for lost ISK, ships, SP and anything else lost because of this ****-up wouldn't go amiss.
And if you read the other forum thread of Black Screening, CCP has managed to get an executable reproduce of the issue and patched it onto Singularity. We should see this being patched onto Tranquility on Monday or Sunday.
Yes, CCP could have possibly did improvements to more easily reproduce the issue but they did try their best. Having an issue which isn't reproducable and having it difficult to fix isn't easy.
And I've been denied reimbursement for my ship lost due to this issue. I really hope CCP manages to look and reimburse us all due to this issue not producing any server receivable information therefore. Hopefully we can somehow get reimbursement.
By the way, login to Singularity server, test if it works for you. It works for me, CCP needs more results from their users that this SiSi patch is confirmed working for us. |

Only effects the 9600M card however, other cards do not have the option. But yes, if you are running a 9600M do it. |

Yes, it will also fix your freeze problem. I've tested this on the SiSi server and not had a single lockup/freeze unlike I'd usually have.
So this patch will fix the black screen issue and freeze flickers. |

I have been stuck in the same place (warping into a station) for the past few days. I thought it might be the graphics of the station crashing my game.
I opened the star map upon login and my character successfully warped to the station and did not crash (perhaps because the graphics never loaded to my screen) and I was able to dock up.
For anyone experiencing something similar, try using your star map as a sort of Perseusian anti-Medusa. I've been having the same issue. Just tried undocking tonight and 10 seconds after undocking my screen froze. However, on re-opening the program opening star map on login allowed me to dock. My setup: Processor 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo Memory 8 GB 1067 MHz DDR3 Graphics NVIDIA GeForce 320M 256 MB Software OS X 10.9.1 (13B42) Prior to this fix I was unable to login at the character screen, which I am now able to do. Eve has been unplayable for me for nearly the entire month of February. Progress of some sort then? I've been stuck outside Dodixie Fed Navy Assembly Plant for three days now. Gonna give the star map sketch a go. But honestly, is this what it's come down to....? Please CCP, do something about this, it's gone past ridiculous now!
Petition CCP under the 'stuck' category and explain that a bug is causing you to crash there. CCP should be able to move you to another station of a different type within the next hour or so since it's a high priority category. |

Yes it's the cause to this flicker freezing now. I haven't experienced it elsewhere and so it seems no one else has. |
